Crazy Ideas & Weekend Projects with AI - Vladimir Zhbanko a Dialog on Experts Opinion
With Vladimir Zhbanko
Hosted by Christian Bollensdorff
Crazy Ideas & Weekend Projects with AI Vladimir Zhbanko on Experts Opinion In this third conversation on Experts Opinion, I speak again with Vladimir Zhbanko, Chemical Engineer and Industrial Data Scientist, about the ideas that keep him busy, and how AI can turn them into real tools and even physical objects. Vladimir starts with a simple way not to lose sleep over ideas: take action on what you can control, and write things down. A list, a SharePoint list, or a pen and paper on the night desk. From there we go deep into AI. He explains why he doesn't ask AI for a conclusion but asks it to build a tool, for example a decision-support app based on proven engineering formulas. He also explains how he uses AI with Python and engineering software to design physical parts. We talk about what AI really is (for Vladimir, even linear regression counts), how it removes barriers and creates new ones, and why selling a product is still the hardest part. Vladimir also describes his "Packaging OS" concept, which uses a local LLM, a vector store and retrieval augmented generation (RAG) to handle packaging regulation. To finish, he shares his next weekend project: a bridge designed, optimised and 3D printed with the help of AI. In this conversation, we explore: ✅ How to stop ideas from keeping you awake at night ✅ Using AI to build explainable tools instead of just answers ✅ Physical AI: designing parts with Python and engineering software ✅ What AI is and what it is not ✅ How AI removes barriers and builds new ones ✅ Why selling an AI product is harder than building it ✅ Local LLMs, vector stores and RAG: the Packaging OS concept ✅ Weekend project: an AI-designed, 3D-printed bridge Vladimir combines chemical engineering, data science and AI to help manufacturers optimise processes, improve reliability and meet regulations such as PPWR. ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 Intro: What ideas keep you awake at night? 0:27 Act on what you control, write it down, use AI to build tools 4:44 Pen and paper on the night desk 5:50 Communicate and build your personal brand 7:41 What is AI for you? 10:16 Is AI removing old barriers? 12:54 Building my own scanner and PDF app 14:35 Offline LLMs and AI tools for industry 16:30 How do you use LLMs?
